Michael P. Picone a father, grandfather, businessman, and long time resident of Somerset County, died on January 25, 2017 at the age of 72. He was at home with his wife when he suffered a sudden cardiac arrest. Despite the heroic efforts of first responders, he was unable to be revived.
Michael is survived by his wife, Charlotte Picone, his children Gregory R. Picone (Heather), Michael J. Picone MD (Colleen), two grandchildren Lauren, and Ryan, and brothers Richard, John, and Bobby. He is preceded in death by his parents Michael F. and Rose.
Michael was a graduate of Somerville High School and was the shop manager at his fathers Ford dealership while attending college at night. The two Michaels left the car business for real estate development. They built many residential homes and subdivisions in the county before Michael F. passed in 1977. Michael P. continued the business and built custom homes, day care centers, renovated churches, and renovated the Boys Club of NY in Martinsville NJ.
Michael “Pop-Pop” was an extremely devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed travel, recreational sailing, and had a life long love of automobiles. With his racing days over, he maintained a classic car collection of 50's and 60's Fords, and was President of a local car club.
People that met Michael were always captivated by his outgoing personality, and love of telling stories. His energy and enthusiasm were contagious, and he was completely selfless. He will be missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends.
Visiting hours are scheduled from 5pm to 8pm on Monday, January 30, at the Cusick Funeral Home in Somerville and Tuesday, January 31 at Noon, concluding with a Funeral Graveside Service at 1:30pm at the New Cemetery, South Bridge St., Somerville.
