Lillian Barbati, a longtime resident of Bridgewater, died June 24 at home. She was 92.
Born in Middlesex to Mary and Michael Bracha, she lived there until her marriage to Salvatino Barbati in 1947.
Lillian loved arts and crafts and examples of her paintings, ceramics and crocheted spreads could be seen throughout the home she shared with her late husband Sal during their 67-year marriage.
She also enjoyed the U.S. Coast Guard shipmates reunion trips they took throughout the country, meeting up with other veterans who served with Sal in the South Pacific during World War II.
Lillian was an excellent cook and gardener and loved to entertain family and friends. She was a member of the Leisure Club of St. Mary’s Church, in Bound Brook, and a 60-year communicant at Immaculate Conception Church in Somerville.
She is survived by a son, Carl, and his wife, Sally, of Parsippany; a sister, Rose Sowa of Bridgewater; two sisters-in-law, Joan Barbati, of Bound Brook and Theresa Maiullo, of Warren Twp.; several cousins, including Rose Claytor, of Middlesex, and Joseph Mantella, of Somerville; many nieces and nephews; many friends, including Bill and Lois Frezza, of Bridgewater; and a beloved neighbor, Kathy Leonard.
In addition to her husband, Sal, she was predeceased by a sister, Constance “Honey” Claytor.
Visitation is Tuesday, June 27, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Cusick Funeral Home, Somerville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9:30 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Church, in Somerville. Interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Piscataway.
