Gene P. Newman died July 23 at home in Bath, PA. Mr. Newman was born in Ridgefield and resided in Branchburg before moving to Hillsborough in 1975. He has lived in Bath, PA for 3 years. He retied in 1988 as the Section Chief for the New Jersey Turnpike Authority, E. Brunswick sector, after 35 years with the Authority.
A Navy Veteran of the Korean War, Gene served aboard the USS Howard W. Gilmore a sub-tender and was a member of the American Legion Post 12 of Somerville. Surviving are his children Michael (Anne) Newman, Kathleen (David) Mariani, Theresa (James) Edmonds, James (Coti) Newman and Steve (Heather) Newman, 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. His long time companion, Joyce Prokopowich, predeceased him in 1993. Mr. Newman is also survived by Joyce's children Simonne, Andrea and Darren and her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Visitation from 10 to 11am on Saturday, July 27, at the Cusick Funeral Home, Somerville followed by 11:30am presentation of Military Honors at the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Union Ave., Somerville.
