Emily Marie McAleavy, of Somerville, passed away on July 7, she was 89. Emily was born December 29, 1921 to the late Ellen and Patrick Fitzgerald of Castleton Corners, Staten Island, NY. She resided the majority of her life in Somerville, following her August 26, 1943 marriage to Frank McAleavy Jr., owner of McAleavy's in Somerville. Besides being a homemaker, she worked for Mack Trucks for many years. Emily was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church in Somerville, NJ. Her most precious memories were of growing up in rural Staten Island, working in New York City as a young woman, and most especially, the time spent with her loving husband, sons and family at their home in Lavallette.
Emily was predeceased by her loving husband of 34 years, Frank McAleavy Jr., as well as her brother, John P. Fitzgerald; her sister, Rita Minogue and brother-in-law, James Minogue; and sister-in-law Bernice Pharo and her husband Eagle Pharo. Surviving are her two sons, Francis P. McAleavy III and Hugh T. McAleavy both of Somerville. Also surviving are her daughter-in-law Noreen McAleavy; three grandchildren, Hugh T. McAleavy Jr. and his wife Tina, Carra Henderson and her husband James and Meghan McAleavy. Emily also leaves behind her beautiful great grandchildren Nora Mary Henderson and Emma Grace McAleavy as well as several nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday, July 11 at the Immaculate Conception Church, Somerville and followed by an interment at St. Bernard Cemetery in Bridgewater.
