William G. "Billy" Sweeney died suddenly on February 27 at Hunterdon Medical Center. He was born in Staten Island, NY and has lived in Raritan Borough for over 50 years.
Billy was an iconic character at Espo's Restaurant in Raritan where he was employed as a waiter for over 30 years. You could count on a "special greeting" from him when you walked in the front door and one when you left. Billy reveled in his Irish heritage making frequent trips to Ireland, had extensive knowledge of Classic Rock which he played and sang whenever he could and enjoyed all sports favoring his beloved Chicago Bears and St. Louis Cardinals. However, he was a terrible handicapper in the horse racing local community.
Surviving are his wife Colleen Reh Sweeney, his children Donohue and Teagan, siblings Eileen Lankford and Joseph Sweeney and nephews Michael, Dylan and Matthew.
Visiting hours will begin 6pm on Wednesday, March 2, and conclude with a Memorial Service at 8pm at the Cusick Funeral Home, Somerville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Sweeney Family would be most appreciative.
